Problem with 2001 XG300

ken 11 February 2007 15:55:40
About 2 weeks ago I started having an issue with my XG running rough (almost like it's missing). The check engine light has come on and stayed on. This issue cropped up after the temps dropped rapidly. While the temps have moderated a bit of late, the car runs better, but the ck eng lite is still on and it's still not running the way it should. I was told by a mechanic that there might be water in the fuel filter and when it gets cold, it freezs and causes a reduction in the fuel supply to the injectors. Is this true? I've bought a new filter, but cannot seem to loosen the connecions to the fuel lines to replace it. It's the original filter and the car has about 36K miles on it.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated...thanks
